Week 10

Evaluating Our Work To begin the process we decided on a theme to develop from which was 'War' and we wanted are message to be that war damages people and that it's wrong that regular people were forced to participate in the world wars and they were unprepared and left scarred. We wanted to create a space where an audience can connect to the characters and put themselves in their shoes to understand the emotional impact of conflict. I feel we have achieved this in our work and have strengthened it with acting, facial expressions and speech to humanise the characters we are creating. When performing to the group we have received emotional reactions which is positive in the sense that we have made that impression on the audience. We have decided that some sections need more drama and excitement therefore we are reworking those sections to make these improvement. We also found that our lines need to be cleaner so that we look more neat especially in the marching section as we ...

Choreographic influences

In this blog post I will be discussing our choreographic influences that have inspired our work in different ways to enhance the quality of our work. Firstly I will be discussing the work titles Young Men by BalletBoyz which I will compare to the work Sutra by Sidi Larbi to dictate how they have influenced our piece and how this has effected the impact of our work. Young Men by BalletBoyz is a dance film based on their stage performance at Sadler's Wells Theatre. The piece was choreographed by Ivan Perez and is about the impact of war onto thee soldiers and how they change as people because of this. This strongly correlates to our theme of the impact of war and how the negative effects make the fighting pointless. Their movements carry a lot of drama and have many lifts which are very impactful to the audience to show the characters connections to each other. Unfortunately we are unable to do this as often  as we wish as only households can touch therefore we cannot create this imp...

Week 9

Feedback After completing are choreography we have been given feedback from our teacher. Our next step is using the feedback to improve and develop our first draft of work. These are the steps we have taken and are working to improve. We have decided to all step back behind the sticks during the beginning of the chaos section as it makes sense musically and looks good. I think generally these issues will be smoothed out with practice as we film just after choreographing to keep it fresh in our minds before moving on to the next section. We will use time to make sure we are moving in the same way to show unity and military discipline to link to our stimulus. We have decided to look back to the people we researched near the start of our creative process but found this wasn't working well because we picked those people to represent the deaths that occurred in the war and not about PTSD; therefore we researched the different symptoms of PTSD and are trying to show them to p...

Week 8

Beginning of the Week I was unwell for our choreography lesson on Monday so my group worked really efficiently and created a new section which they filmed and I caught up on later in the week. The sections they worked on are 'countdown' and 'chaos'. In count down we are in a clump using our sticks within the choreography to represent rifles. In this clump we are subtly bouncing up and down to represent a form of transport taking us towards battle. Then one at a time the group breaks away to show three of us show some character to help show that we are representing regular people who awe scared. Later we begin the chaos section which is representing battle. It is full of sharp movements contrasted with some slow motion to emphasise the dynamics. This is then followed by a solo from Nathan, a duet of Caitlin and Erin and a trio of me, Louisa and Lucy as we can choreograph these in our own time as it is our household groups.   Later this Week On my return the group helpe...

Week 7

Music This week was all about progress and creating new material. With this we began by listening to different songs that we found individually and finalising our music choices as a group. The songs for each section are as follows: Section 1 - A metronome at 120bpm Section 2 - Vivaldi - The Four Seasons, Spring 1 (recomposed by Max Richter) Section 3 - Hans Zimmer - 1976 Section 4 - Sound of game 'Halo' Section 5 - Max Richter - Dona Nobis Pacem 2 Section 6 - Moonlight Sonata Section 7 - Last Post Creating Movement We then used time to create for section 2. We started at the beginning of the track just at the end of the march section which we completed last week as we felt the diagonal line worked really well for how we were going to use the motif that Lucy and Erin created for this section. We began with that sequence as we felt it symbolised the message of "coming together" which is what we have titled this section. We then included movements that are mostly in un...
