Week 9
Feedback
After completing are choreography we have been given feedback from our teacher. Our next step is using the feedback to improve and develop our first draft of work. These are the steps we have taken and are working to improve.
We have decided to all step back behind the sticks during the beginning of the chaos section as it makes sense musically and looks good. I think generally these issues will be smoothed out with practice as we film just after choreographing to keep it fresh in our minds before moving on to the next section. We will use time to make sure we are moving in the same way to show unity and military discipline to link to our stimulus.
We have decided to look back to the people we researched near the start of our creative process but found this wasn't working well because we picked those people to represent the deaths that occurred in the war and not about PTSD; therefore we researched the different symptoms of PTSD and are trying to show them to present characters, we have also included more moments of connection between each other. To improve the accumulating section we have finalised the counts so that we know how many bars until each dancer joins which stops it seeming like we are waiting to join to create the spontaneity we had when we improvised this.
The final section was meant to be in unison however this can be fixed and we are working on this by clarifying counts to be sure we are in time. We really liked the suggestion from miss Evans regarding some soldiers falling leaving only a couple standing by the end so we have choreographed this into our piece leaving two standing to look at each other.
I like how you’ve researched the symptoms of PTSD to get a good understanding of how to portray your character. With the new changes to your ending of the piece, what do you want the audience to feel?
ReplyDeleteI think the audience will understand the ending more then the original and will be more suspenseful and emotional which is the atmosphere we want to create.
DeleteIt's really interesting to read about what has worked well within your choreography and areas which you have decided to improve. You have written about the changes you will make from your feedback. What positive feedback did you receive?
ReplyDeleteWe received feedback that our acting was done well and that there was many moments that were captivating for the audience. We also received a comment that the piece didn't feel like a ten minute work because it was interesting to watch which is something we are proud of.
DeleteThis is a really clear and detailed post! Your extensive research on PTSD will really enhance your characterisation and I am looking forward to seeing this in your piece. Do you feel that feedback from your peers is more effective than when you watch your work back yourself?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your feedback. I definitely feel that peer feedback can be very useful to know what works well and what we shouldn't change or fix as it is usual that we can be more critical than positive about our own work.
