Week 10
Evaluating Our Work
To begin the process we decided on a theme to develop from which was 'War' and we wanted are message to be that war damages people and that it's wrong that regular people were forced to participate in the world wars and they were unprepared and left scarred. We wanted to create a space where an audience can connect to the characters and put themselves in their shoes to understand the emotional impact of conflict.
I feel we have achieved this in our work and have strengthened it with acting, facial expressions and speech to humanise the characters we are creating. When performing to the group we have received emotional reactions which is positive in the sense that we have made that impression on the audience.
We have decided that some sections need more drama and excitement therefore we are reworking those sections to make these improvement. We also found that our lines need to be cleaner so that we look more neat especially in the marching section as we want to look as robotic as possible.
I feel we have done very well in making material that links to the message as we always made sure to ask ourselves why we are doing something rather then just keeping it in for the sake of movement. I also feel that we made really impactful music choices and in our feedback we were told that the music did impact the performance positively.
Challenges we faced included the time pressure. I found that we were very nervous about making the material in time but we did achieve this and had time to spare for cleaning and editing which we are currently working on. We also struggled with self-doubt and spoke as a group often about which sections we felt weren't right yet but this did help us with striving for better work and I think that can invoke the potential to never finish and to constantly want to change things.
This was a really interesting blog post to read, seeing how your intentions have been achieved! Was there any intrinsic feedback that you identified and worked on?
ReplyDeleteI like how your group has improved the choreography to add more drama and emotion. This will be really effective when getting the audience to form an emotional connection to the characters. Even though your group had some doubts, it’s helped you develop your piece and improve. What were some of your doubts? Do you feel more confident about them now?
ReplyDeleteIt was really interesting to read about how you want your piece to affect the audience as this is how I felt while watching it. How do you feel that your "acting, facial expressions and speech" were able to evoke an emotional response from the audience?
