Week 8
Beginning of the Week
I was unwell for our choreography lesson on Monday so my group worked really efficiently and created a new section which they filmed and I caught up on later in the week. The sections they worked on are 'countdown' and 'chaos'. In count down we are in a clump using our sticks within the choreography to represent rifles. In this clump we are subtly bouncing up and down to represent a form of transport taking us towards battle. Then one at a time the group breaks away to show three of us show some character to help show that we are representing regular people who awe scared. Later we begin the chaos section which is representing battle. It is full of sharp movements contrasted with some slow motion to emphasise the dynamics. This is then followed by a solo from Nathan, a duet of Caitlin and Erin and a trio of me, Louisa and Lucy as we can choreograph these in our own time as it is our household groups.
Later this Week
On my return the group helped me learn the work I missed and we then got to work on a new section. As Nathan was unavailable for this rehearsal and we have been asked to complete our piece for Monday we made the decision to finish chaos with an all female section. This begins following the solo, trio and duet where we huddle into a cluster as if protecting others from a bomb which goes off under us blowing us away into a new formation where we perform a serious of quick sharp movements to show the tension of the scene building, developed from the motif from the beginning of this section. This develops in a slow motion version of the march motif from the very first section of the piece to transition into the next section which we developed from last weeks improvisation. In this march Louisa breaks free as if being attached by gas and is in a normal speed. This is very dramatic and eye catching.
Final Section and Changes
Following the chaos section we were going to have a section called 'Fear' which we decided to cut as it didn't feel it embellished the time line of events in anyway so instead we move straight into the PTSD section. Following this is the minute silence which we used small gestural movements to allow time for the audience to develop a final image of the piece and hopefully conclude to our message we are trying to show, we include a bang that sounds like a bomb were we drop to one knee to symbolise that there is more to come and that war never seems to end. I will also adjust the music edit as needed from our most recent rehearsal.

I found this blog very interesting to read! I like how you’ve used imagery of being in a transport vehicle on the way to war, I think that will be really effective! Is there anything you want to change or develop in the choreography?
ReplyDeleteAs a group we have decided that we'd like to fill some moments of stillness with movement to keep it interesting. This is something we can now do as the assessment approaches and we are much more confident in the counts.
DeleteIt's really good that your group carried on without you and you still managed to pick up the choreography! Are there any challenges which you have faced recently? Is there anything specific which you aim to achieve or work on within the next few weeks?
ReplyDeleteThank you Mhairi, this was one of my challenges I feel. I fine the section I had to catch up on the most difficult to remember but I am feeling more confident now. During this final stage we are cleaning the piece and making any necessary edits or changes.
DeleteI like how you've used props to further emphasise your stimulus. You and your group have also organised your time well in order to ensure that you used your time productively even if not all of you were together. Is there anything you struggled with when editing your music?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. With the music edit I found it challenging to make sure that I used the correct amount of music for each section and cut it at the right time, but my group helped me to overcome this.
